SUMMER INTENSIVE

Workshops

Attachment Based - Cognitive Behavioral Systemic Therapy  (AB-CBST)
13th Annual Summer Intensive!

Sign Up for the Whole Week or One or More Workshops!
See the Schedule Here

This Summer Intensive is intended for licensed therapists as well as student therapists who are interested in learning how to successfully integrate evidence based approaches to provide principal driven treatment to children, adults, couples, and families.

There has been much research on the effectiveness on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and outcomes with adults are improved by involving the systems in the clients' lives.  In addition, when working with children and adolescents, the ability to work with family interactions are necessary.  Attachment Based - Cognitive Behavioral Systemic Therapy focuses on four aspects:
  • Adding systems work to any approach greatly reduces the likelihood of relapse and increases client's quality of life and relationships
  • All change is cognitive, although the road to a cognitive shift may be through behavioral interventions, cognitive interventions, systemic interventions, or process/experiential interventions.
  • For lasting change to happen, there has to be both bottom up (frontal lobe) as well as top down processing (limbic system), connecting our head and our heart.  Integrating intentions to address both are important for second order change.
  • Attachment is an organizing principal for how one relates to oneself, the world, and other people.
  • Attachment is an organizing principal to the relationship between the therapist and client, which is one of the most important predictors of outcome
In this summer intensive, licensed and student therapists will learn the fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Evolving Structural Strategic Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, and how to incorporate techniques and ideas from a number of other evidence based approaches.
WORKSHOPS

2025 13th Annual Summer Intensive
Attachment Based - Cognitive Behavioral Systemic Therapy  (AB-CBST)

The Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy provides a week long, summer intensive training in Attachment Based - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AB-CBST).  The training covers all the elements of Attachment Based - CBST in one week's time. We have a number of therapists from our local Bay Area who attend the trainings, as well as therapists training nationally and internationally to attend the trainings.  Additionally, we now offer hybrid trainings, with participants on Zoom who get the experience of feeling like they're in the room.
