Bay Area Center for CHIldren

At IAP's Bay Area Center for Children, we use effective, evidence based treatments to help children with a variety of problems.  Early intervention is extremely important in treating anxiety, trauma/PTSD learning problems, signs of depression, behavior problems and defiance, anger issues, and other problems at home or school.  Kids don't have to continue to struggle, there is help!

Many parents wonder how therapy can be helpful to children.  The most effective treatment for children is using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in combination with Family Therapy.  The parents are used to help the children understand, and intervene with the difficulties they're having.  Parents are a child's best resource, so in addition to working with your child, your therapist will help give you the tools so that the work can continue outside of the session.

In sessions, your therapist will use play therapy, art therapy, or just regular old talk therapy to help them access their emotions, underlying patterns of thinking, and helping them with tools to change these patterns of thinking.  In addition, the therapist will help them communicate what is going on with their parents, and the therapist will teach the parents therapy techniques (e.g., play, art, talk) to help the changes continue outside of the therapy sessions.  You'd be surprised how much is going on inside kids' little heads, and we'll help you to be able to get a better sense of what is going on and how to help.

Our goal is to create lasting change, and addressing issues in a focused way, rather than having a child in therapy for years.  Our goal is to involve parents to help them become the therapist who the child can turn to, and help parents to have the tools to help their kids for lasting change.  Don't delay, there is help!
