Integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
There is no question today that Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is an important tool in a clinician's toolbox. Significant empirical research has demonstrated its effectiveness with issues such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, phobias, panic disorder, OCD, ADHD, social phobia, and other issues.
In this workshop, attendees will learn the theoretical underpinnings of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and various approaches that fall under the CBT umbrella including Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Exposure with Response Prevention, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy as well as theories outside of the CBT umbrella with important theories and techniques to be considered including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Attachment Based Family Therapy.
Participants will then learn specific techniques related to behavioral interventions, such as monitoring symptoms, exposure therapy, mindfulness techniques, breathing retraining and other techniques and see videos of these interventions being used with clients. Participants will see the cognitive interventions being used with a client and learn techniques for eliciting thoughts and beliefs and helping clients develop cognitive flexibility and cognitive restructuring.
With the ground of theory and the learning of various practical techniques, the attendees will then review evidence based protocols for treating depression, generalized anxiety disorder, phobias, OCD, social phobia, PTSD, ADHD and a transdignostic approach to integrating CBT, DBT and ACT techniques.

ONE WAY MIRROR TRAINING
Participants who have taken the six-hour workshops in CBT will be invited to attend the 10 session live "one way mirror" training where one therapist from the training will volunteer to see the client*, while Dr. Sutton calls into the session, giving suggestions while the group watches the session via video camera. The series is limited to 6 participants. The first 30 minutes of the training will be spent discussing the case, the plan for the session that day, and addressing the theory and techniques. The client will then work with the therapist for 50 minutes while the team gives suggestions during the session. After the session is over, the group will spend the last 30 minutes discussing what worked, what didn't, and why. We will be able to go beyond just theory and technique and see how to apply the approaches in practice.
