Are you interested in learning more about the field of psychology? We have openings for nonclinical internships where undergraduate, graduate, and post undergraduate students can gain experience in the field of psychology. Nonclinical interns volunteer for the Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy group practice, providing marketing assistance, research assistance, and helping to facilitate workshops and trainings.
Nonclinical interns are able to attend IAP trainings and workshops for free (after a period of time) and are able to participate in IAP's monthly meetings where they meet, listen to, and learn from therapists with expertise in child, adolescent, and couples therapy, anxiety disorders, ADHD, and oppositional defiant disorder treatment, and Cognitive Behavioral, Emotionally Focused, and Family Systems approaches. Our clinicians work as part of our six Specialty Centers: Center for Children, Center for Adolescents, Center for Couples, Center for Anxiety, Center for ADHD, and Oppositional and Conduct Disorder Clinic It is important to note that none of our nonclinical internships involve direct work with clients, so if you are looking for direct client interaction, unfortunately it would not be possible in this internship.
Nonclinical interns attend the weekly Friday workday from 10am-1pm in San Francisco, which are currently being held over Zoom, where they will work on the projects that need the most assistance. Once a month the workday will start at 9:45am. Nonclinical interns also may attend a monthly meeting with the clinicians in the group practice on the second Monday of every month from 12pm-2pm, where the clinicians discuss research, developments in their work, and cases. Other nonclinical activities include helping set up workshops and dropping off fliers for workshops at local schools, doctors’ offices, and other locations. Internship lengths vary with some interns coming to volunteer for just the summer, while we've had others stay over a year to volunteer with IAP and BACC.
If you are interested in a nonclinical internship, please email [email protected] with the subject line "IAP Nonclinical Internship" and provide a cover letter explaining your interest in the field of psychology, your training (e.g., undergraduate work in psychology, graduate work in psychology), and why you think you would be a good addition to our team. We look forward to hearing from you.
