Integrating somatic psychotherapy

with Karen Sprinkel, M.A., LMFT, SEP, CCTP
WORKSHOPS

Integrating Somatic Psychotherapy

In this workshop, providers will learn the foundations of Somatic Therapies. Participants will also learn strengths of the approach and ways to facilitate healing in clients based on the basic foundational principles of Somatic Experiencing ®️(SE™️), Hakomi, Sensorimotor and Polyvagal Theory and applications, including somatic resilience and regulation. Although SE™️ will be the majority of the focus of this workshop, Karen will also review the theoretical underpinnings of trauma therapy and discuss how she uses various concepts to consistently meet the clients needs and pivot approaches as necessary. There will be case demonstrations and brief exercises.
Karen Sprinkel Ancelet, LMFT, Certified Brainspotting Provider and Consultant, Certified EMDR Clinician, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 3 Practitioner, Certified Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy provider (KAP) and Certified Psychedelic Psychotherapist (PAT) has worked with acute, chronic and complex trauma for over 30 years.
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the three branches of the autonomic nervous system (dorsal vagal, sympathetic, ventral vagal), and identify common stress and trauma responses in clients and differentiate when an individual is functioning from a “trauma body” versus a regulated state.
2. Explain how somatic interoceptive awareness, orientation, neuroception, orientating architecture, and pendulation foster and develop self- , auto- , and co-regulation and inner healing intelligence within Somatic Experiencing.
3. Demonstrate at least one alerting and calming intervention to increase/decrease arousal and support regulation in clients experiencing hypoarousal/hyperarousal.
4. Identify signs of event trauma stored in the body (e.g., involuntary movements, bracing, readiness, defense responses) and discuss their clinical implications for treatment.
