Educational Consultant
Whether it be a new school for your child, an enrichment program like a wilderness trek or volunteering in another country, a therapeutic boarding school, or a rehab program, our educational consultant can help you find the right placement for your child, adolescent, or young adult. We work with your family throughout the process to develop a plan for success.
Virginia Reiss, MS is a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP 652) and a Certified Educational Planner. She spends one week out of the month traveling to programs throughout the United States and out of the country, as well as locally, to keep up to date on the best treatment options. She helps match students to not only a program that fits them, but also to the staff and counselors at the programs who will work directly with the students. She also keeps up to date on the changes of each program year to year, since some programs may have been highly respected one year, but have a decline in treatment the next year due to change in management or change in counselors. There are so many programs out there it can be hard for parents to pick just from recommendations or an internet search, so having an educational consultant help you find the right match is invaluable.
At the Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy, we have specialists who work with children, adolescents, and young adults with learning issues, anxiety, family difficulties, behavioral problems, ADHD/ADD, and other high risk issues. We work with families to help them find local solutions to their problems and if the client needs to be placed out of the home for sometime, we work with the family throughout the process and help them transition their child back home. We know that for an out of home placement to be successful, it takes preparation to help ease the child back into the home in order to help him/her maintain the gains made while away.
